Firefox Search Bar and Programs Getting Soy
Firefox has rolled out the new version of the url bar hiding the “search with” buttons behind a popup one has to click with mouse or making a person have to lower themselves to the level of writing @keyword before they can select their desired search engine or any other enabled/added search engine.
unfortunately to reverse the change forces a user to give up the rest of the recode and for now can be reversed by setting
browser.urlbar.scotchBonnet.enableOverride
in about:config to false.
I had heard stories of firefox adding many breaking changes and users liking/disliking them and now that i have been forced to face one of such changes myself i do understand the struggles of others. The whole desktop operating system should be possible to operate only with keyboard and this was yet another cut in the eternal ‘death by thousand papercuts’ that is mainstream programs updating.
The users who unfortuantely never let go of ubuntu and therefore probably use the default desktop enviroment - GNOME and most windows users probably do not understand this struggle of trying to navigate the desktop enviroment using only keyboard but it is indeed the case that it is the fastest way to navigate.
Using a split keyboard with basic vim-like keybinds and macros should be the default expectation of humans yet the simple plea of humans to not be forced to be subject to uncomfortable hand position and non-natural finger movement when using a default row staggered keyboard is completely silenced by the majority of computing behing done the way it always has been and so continuing in that way forever because going with the flow is easier and more profitable as it doesn’t force expenses that would be needed for a change.
